About Steve

I squandered a lot of my opportunities at secondary school and never dreamed of asking for help with anything - until I enrolled in a 6th Form/Year 11 Journalism class.

My ideas about journalism back then were shaped by a mediocre 1980s British comedy series called 'Filthy Rich & Catflap'. Please don't search for it on YouTube as it hasn't aged well - but if you must, Episode 6 is the one to watch! I also had a 'tabloid' approach to everything I did - including my dream to play for Nottingham Forrest or Norwich City and appear on 'Big League Soccer' one day, - that involved ugly short cuts that I always knew I'd eventually regret.

Fortunately, I had an inspirational and uncompromising journalism teacher who forced me to stop forging my advice column letters and begin interviewing Ministers of the Crown instead. I don't know if you need the same kind of 'tough love' as I did, but I suspect you may. Admittedly, this origin story is nowhere near as impressive as my Avondale College chums Jared Savage and David Fisher's, but then they aren't offering to assist you with your school stuff like I am :D

And, yes, as you can tell, and not just by my ancient TV references, I'm older than most. Yet I also learned the hard way that if you don't get off your butt and start working for what you want to be, no one is going to hand it to you on a silver platter... unless you already live in a Richie Rich-style mansion. And that's what I want you to accept, too.

About the lesson

It's been a long time since I had any involvement with secondary school level media studies so If you need help with those kinds of classes, I might not be your best option. However, you don't need to be tertiary level learner, either.

Basically, I can only offer you FREE general study and writing advice unless you have detailed concerns about particular communication and media studies topics that I feel confident answering. That's right - I won't charge you a cent. Because I don't need to pay my rent by exploiting vulnerable individuals who are willing to pay for what can sometimes be a glorified A.I. Google summary-style service.

I'm a student as well and I want to be the sort of mentor I had when I was working toward my goals. I won't pretend to know something when I don't - and I expect the same honesty from you. Elite tutors catering to elite students do exist; but they aren't cheap and usually don't get involved with less able learners. I do.
