About Lila
As a violin tutor with over 7 years of experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts, I focus on music as a tool for healing. I believe the violin gives us a way to express emotions that are too deep for words. My lessons emphasize mindfulness, stress reduction, and emotional release through sound. Improvisation is an important part of my approach, encouraging free exploration. Journaling is used to link music to personal reflection. Soundscape creation lets students shape their emotions into unique sonic experiences. I have supported neurodiverse learners, trauma survivors, and adult students seeking music as therapy. Each lesson is gentle, adaptive, and nurturing. I aim to build resilience through both music-making and reflection. The violin becomes a safe companion in moments of struggle. My violin teaching approach is centered on expressive bowing. Technique starts with a relaxed bow hold and proper arm alignment. Students learn to shape tone by controlling bow speed, weight, and placement. Dynamics are introduced early, so the violin becomes an expressive tool, not just an instrument. I guide students through detaché, legato, and spiccato, explaining how each stroke changes character. Dedicated exercises are used to strengthen bow control and flexibility. Students who come from singing backgrounds, like the Shower Singer and Choir Member, often excel when they apply phrasing skills to the violin. I support them in merging their vocal expressiveness with instrumental technique. My lessons are clear, structured, and encouraging. Every student learns at their own pace but with consistent progress. I emphasize music-making that feels natural and expressive. Each stroke becomes part of the story the violin tells. In time, students discover the ability to produce beautiful, resonant tones.
