About Eden
Teaching saxophone is a process of cultivating musical growth that combines technical discipline with imaginative self-expression. I teach students across the spectrum—from novices to seasoned performers—through a sequential framework emphasizing breath support, embouchure control, tone consistency, finger agility, and rhythmic accuracy. I layer in critical skills like articulation, intonation, and dynamic control, enabling students to perform with detail and sensitivity. Creativity is integrated from the start: call-and-response improvisation, melodic development exercises, and harmonic exploration help students build fluency and personal style. Music theory is introduced contextually—connecting concepts of harmony, scale usage, and rhythmic structure through the lenses of performance pieces and improvisation exercises. I encourage students to pursue repertoire that aligns with their musical tastes—jazz standards, blues progressions, pop melodies, classical études, or original works—to promote relevance and excitement in lessons. Goal-setting is a joint process where milestones like ensemble participation, public performance, technical achievements, or creative projects mark each phase of development. One memorable teaching moment was witnessing a hesitant student deliver an expressive solo in a live band setting, a testament to the power of consistent guidance and creative courage. My ultimate aim is to develop saxophonists who are disciplined, inspired, expressive, and confident in sharing their musical voice.

My saxophone teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that music is a powerful form of self-expression and personal growth. I aim to create a learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, take risks, and develop their unique musical voice.
From the first lesson, I emphasize the importance of sound production, focusing on breath control, embouchure, and tone quality. These foundational elements are crucial for developing a rich, resonant sound and for building the technical skills necessary to tackle more complex pieces. I also introduce students to the basics of music theory, helping them understand the structure and language of music. This knowledge empowers them to interpret and perform music with greater insight and expression.
Recognizing that each student has individual learning styles and goals, I tailor my lessons to suit their needs. Whether a student is interested in classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, or contemporary pop music, I strive to provide repertoire that aligns with their interests while challenging them to grow. I believe in the importance of performance as a tool for building confidence and musicality. I encourage students to participate in recitals and ensembles, providing opportunities to showcase their progress and to learn from others. Technology is an integral part of my teaching approach.
I incorporate digital tools such as recording software, metronomes, and tuners to facilitate practice and to provide students with immediate feedback. These tools help students develop a more critical ear and a deeper understanding of their playing. Ultimately, my goal is to instill in students a lifelong love for music, a strong sense of discipline, and the confidence to express themselves through their instrument.
