About Paula

As a future Brown University premed student and recent UWC Costa Rica and IB Diploma graduate (May 2025), I understand the demands of both the IB curriculum and the U.S. college admissions process — because I went through them myself. I bring not only subject expertise in IB HL Chemistry (as a former selected Teacher's Assistant) but also firsthand experience in navigating high-pressure academic environments. I’m committed to creating a supportive, respectful, and engaging learning space. I come prepared, on time, and ready to adapt lessons to your learning style and pace. My goal is to help you not just improve, but genuinely understand and actually enjoy the material — and feel more confident in your own abilities. Whether you're aiming to improve your Chemistry grade or applying to a (competitive) U.S. university, I’m here to help you get there with personalized support and up-to-date insight.

About the lesson

I am a predicted 7 in IB HL Chemistry and have been accepted into Brown University’s premed program for fall 2025 as an international student. I will graduate in May 2025 from the International Baccalaureate program, bringing with me the most up-to-date knowledge of the curriculum. While I haven’t yet worked as a paid tutor, I have volunteered as a tutor throughout my entire high school experience and genuinely enjoyed helping others succeed. A typical lesson will focus on a topic the student has expressed confusion or uncertainty about: 1. Brief Concept Review (10–20 min). We start with a focused explanation of the topic, supported by a short presentation, graphs and formulas. 2. Guided Practice (20–30 min). We work through selected practice questions together — from worksheets, textbooks, or IB-style questions — to build problem-solving confidence and reinforce the concept. 3. Past Paper Application (remainder of session). We go over real IB past paper questions that test this topic. Over time, we track progress until the topic becomes a strength — not a weakness. I also offer short recap notes, topic checklists, and light homework between sessions if desired. In addition to HL Chemistry tutoring, I also offer support with U.S. university applications — especially for students navigating selective admissions and aiming for top schools. From brainstorming essays to understanding the Common App and building a strong application narrative, I’m excited to help others through a process I’ve recently gone through myself. My passion for learning and teaching drives me to share what I’ve learned with students who are eager to improve and reach their goals.
