About Layla

From the first nervous note to the final, full-voiced performance, I’ve seen what seven years of dedicated vocal coaching can help students achieve. My philosophy is simple: singing should feel both powerful and personal. It’s not about sounding like someone else—it’s about discovering what makes your voice yours. I work with middle schoolers, high schoolers, and college students to help them find that voice, develop it, and share it with conviction. In our lessons, we focus on foundational technique—supportive breathing, range development, tone control, pitch accuracy, and resonance. But we also explore the deeper layers of performance: how to connect with lyrics, how to use body language effectively, and how to communicate emotion without losing technical control. Students learn how to create setlists, prepare for auditions, and present songs in a polished and compelling way. I bring in tech tools like pitch analyzers and audio journaling so students can track their improvement and hear themselves through new ears. Warm-up libraries are personalized based on voice type, goals, and vocal needs that week. One thing my students appreciate is that our sessions are both structured and creative. I often assign performance challenges—such as “Sing It Backwards” or “Switch the Genre”—to stretch comfort zones while reinforcing key skills. No matter your level or your reason for singing, I create a plan that grows with you, step by step. I also integrate vocal health education into every session: How to protect your voice during allergy season, what hydration strategies really work, and how to build stamina for back-to-back rehearsals. My teaching space is welcoming, affirming, and deeply invested in each student’s success. Whether you dream of the stage or just want to find comfort in your own sound, I’m here to help you build a voice that feels confident, expressive, and fully yours.

The voice is a living instrument that reflects our physical, emotional, and cultural selves. My teaching philosophy embraces this complexity by prioritizing technical excellence alongside expressive authenticity and cultural consciousness.

Technical development includes exercises for breath support, vocal fold balance, resonance optimization, and articulation clarity, all adapted to meet individual needs and preserve vocal health. I emphasize awareness and mindfulness to help students cultivate a sustainable vocal practice. Equally important is the expressive dimension: I guide students in exploring the emotional content, narrative structure, and dramatic intent of repertoire. I use techniques such as imagery, role-playing, and phrasing experimentation to deepen their interpretive insight.

I also believe singers must be culturally informed performers; we study the origins, contexts, and meanings of the music to foster respect and responsibility. Perseverance is woven through my teaching—by promoting reflective habits, setting incremental goals, and cultivating a growth mindset, students learn to face challenges with confidence and persistence. My studio is a space where technical rigor meets artistic freedom, encouraging every singer to find their unique voice and share it with conviction and heart.
