About Jiaji
I am a graduate student in Applied Mathematics at UW Seattle. I have a degree in Mathematical Finance (MS) at Rutgers University with a bachelor's in mathematics/philosophy from Purdue University. I've been giving lessons in mathematics since I was in high school, with experience teaching anywhere from middle school to college level math.

My teaching method is strongly based on student activity and discovery of mathematical ideas. Students should not be expected to be given solutions nor will they always be taught in a way that fits one textbook or style.
My main three goals for each student include:
1. To help students develop mathematical literacy through reasoning through simple ideas and models of complex phenomena and structure.
2. To relieve mathematical anxiety through play and exploration.
3. To capture mathematical concepts accurately and precisely by reasoning through intuition.
I am a strong believer that the usual formula pushing methods of K-12 curriculum are insufficient for developing mathematical literacy and maturity. To develop an idea means to develop it organically (AKA from scratch), then learn to apply it in concrete settings as to find a use for it as to totally capture the meaning of a new concept, relaying it back to context.

My style intended to teach you (or your child) how to frame, read and engage critically and creatively with mathematics that goes beyond superficial symbol pushing and into the realm of being able to *own* the ideas that you learn in tutoring. Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is for you not to need me anymore.
I encourage you to try me out for a few lessons. If you are unsatisfied with my tutoring, you are free to have all of your money (with the exception of travel expenses) back within the first two lessons.
