About the lesson
My teaching method is strongly based on student activity and discovery of mathematical ideas. Students will not be given solutions nor will they always be taught in a way that fits one textbook or style.
My main three goals for each student include:
1. To help students develop mathematical literacy.
2. To relieve mathematical anxiety through play and exploration.
3. To allow students to have enough time to be creative and develop their own ideas so they won't have to rely on others to develop their ideas.
I am a strong believer that the usual formula pushing methods of K-12 curriculum are insufficient for developing mathematical literacy and the primary reason why students struggle to learn and synthesize new concepts. For me, learning mathematical literacy is the way to overcoming such obstacles. Learning mathematical literacy is not about learning how to say big words, read formulas or symbols but rather a way of learning about how apply practical reasoning from the past to mathematical ideas that we are trying to learn now in plain English and pictures since math is the only subject that unique relies on a strict phenomenological connection between both Words and Pictures. If such a connection can be established, then your child will no longer need to rely on tutors and will be able to discover mathematics for themselves.

I am a graduate student in Applied Mathematics studying Mathematical Finance (MS) at Rutgers University with a bachelor's in mathematics/philosophy from Purdue University. I've been giving lessons in mathematics since I was in high school, with experience teaching anywhere from middle school to college level math.

My style intended to teach you (or your child) how to frame, read and engage creatively with mathematics that goes beyond superficial symbol pushing and into the realm of being able to *own* the ideas that you learn in tutoring. Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is for you not to need me anymore.
I encourage you to try me out for a few lessons. If you are unsatisfied with my tutoring, you are free to have all of your money (with the exception of travel expenses) back within the first two lessons.
