About Elizabeth
Hi! My name is Elizabeth, but you can call me Ellie. I'm a college student at The Catholic University of America majoring in English. I'm also perusing a certification in education. I'm a writer by profession and passion, and I love to get kids excited about this very special and practical subject.

I give detailed and regimented activities that take the concept one step at a time. I give attention to the "why" behind formal writing conventions, metaphor, and techniques; I give special attention to the "why it matters", explaining not just the history of some technique, but also the impact it has on the reader or audience.
A typical lesson plan (for something like close-reading skills, as an example) would begin with the content. If it is something I select, I will make sure it has a spark inside of it that will highly interest my student. If it is something that is selected for me, I will create the spark, connecting it to something my student is already passionate about. We will read the content aloud (I try to push my students to get comfortable with public speaking), sometimes taking turns and sometimes letting the student take the lead. Then we have a discussion about the content of the reading, focusing on drawing connections to the real world or the student's personal life, as I find that's the best way to get kids interested in the activity.
This level of personal connection, detail-oriented nature, and in-depth explanation is what makes me especially qualified to teach creative writing, close-reading, literature, and essay writing to kids with ASD. I myself was diagnosed with ASD as a kid and had to navigate academics all on my own. I never want any other kid to go through that.
My services are for the middle school age range in the subjects of English and Social Studies.
