About Jos

I want to teach composition, arrangement, music theory, and orchestration because these subjects are at the heart of musical creativity, and it’s this creativity that drives my passion for sharing these arts with others. Music, to me, is the ultimate form of expression—an ever-evolving process that combines emotion, imagination, and intellect. I believe that everyone has a unique musical voice, and my goal is to help students find and develop theirs through these core areas of study.

Composition is where ideas transform into something tangible, and that process of creation is endlessly inspiring to me. I want to help students unlock their creative potential, guiding them through the process of turning a simple melody or idea into a fully developed piece of music. The thrill of seeing someone create something entirely their own is what excites me the most about teaching composition. It’s about giving students the tools to express complex emotions and thoughts through music, making what’s in their mind become something that others can hear and feel.

Arrangement, for me, is where creativity meets practical problem-solving. I love working with students to help them reimagine a piece, exploring how different instruments and sounds can interact to convey a specific feeling or idea. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see students take an original concept and expand it, turning something simple into a rich, dynamic arrangement. I believe that every arranger has a unique perspective, and I want to help students discover how to take their ideas and present them in new and exciting ways.

Orchestration is where music truly comes alive. The process of writing for different instruments and understanding how they all work together is a deeply creative challenge, and I love teaching students how to harness the power of orchestration to express their musical ideas in the most powerful way possible. There’s something magical about hearing a piece come together with multiple voices, each contributing to the larger story, and it’s an experience I want to share with my students.

Ultimately, my passion for teaching these subjects stems from a desire to inspire others to explore their creativity to the fullest. I believe that music is a language of limitless possibilities, and by teaching composition, arrangement, music theory, and orchestration, I’m able to help students not only understand the technical side of music but also empower them to express themselves in the most personal and creative way possible. For me, it’s about unlocking potential, fostering originality, and providing students with the skills and confidence they need to bring their musical ideas into the world.

Are you ready to explore the world of music creation and elevate your skills in composition, arrangement, music theory, and orchestration? Here’s why studying with me can be a transformative step in your musical development.

Composition: Bring Your Musical Ideas to Life

Composition is where creativity and technical skill come together. With my guidance, you’ll learn not only how to craft beautiful, meaningful music but also how to develop your unique voice as a composer. We’ll explore different compositional techniques, from melody writing to harmonic progression, and I’ll help you create works that speak to your audience. Whether you’re writing for solo instruments, small ensembles, or large orchestras, I will support you in developing your own style and refining your compositions. Using Sibelius and Logic Pro, we can bring your ideas to life, allowing you to hear your compositions in real time and fine-tune every detail.

Arrangement: Transforming Your Ideas into Full Works

Arranging music is about taking a musical idea and expanding it for different instruments, genres, or settings. In our lessons, I’ll teach you the art of arranging, from adapting a piece for various ensembles to ensuring each instrument’s role is clear and effective. Whether you’re arranging for small groups or large orchestras, we’ll work together to develop your ability to reimagine and rework musical ideas. By incorporating Sibelius and Logic Pro into our sessions, you’ll have the tools to experiment and hear your arrangements come to life, translating your creative concepts into fully realised pieces.

Music Theory: The Foundation of Everything

Understanding music theory is essential for any composer, arranger, or orchestrator. I’ll guide you through the core principles of music theory, from scales and chords to advanced harmonic analysis and counterpoint. You’ll learn how to apply these concepts to your own compositions and arrangements, ensuring your music is both technically sound and creatively inspired. With a solid understanding of theory, you’ll be able to make informed musical decisions, strengthening the impact of your work.

Orchestration: Bringing Music to Life with Instruments

Orchestration is the art of writing for different instruments and blending them into a cohesive, expressive whole. Whether you’re writing for a string quartet, full orchestra, or electronic ensemble, I’ll teach you how to harness the unique qualities of each instrument. Together, we’ll explore how to distribute melodies, harmonies, and rhythms across the ensemble, ensuring that each part contributes to the overall expression of the piece. By using Sibelius and Logic Pro, we’ll bring your orchestrations to life, allowing you to hear and refine your work before it’s performed.

Why Study with Me?

My goal is to guide you through every stage of your journey as a composer, arranger, theorist, and orchestrator. I’m passionate about helping students develop both their technical skills and their own musical voice. Whether you’re looking to complete a composition project, prepare for exams, or deepen your knowledge of theory, I’ll tailor each lesson to meet your specific goals. By integrating Sibelius and Logic Pro into lessons focused on composition, arrangement, and orchestration, you’ll gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software to bring your music to life.

If you’re ready to unlock your full creative potential and dive deeper into the art of composition, arrangement, and orchestration, let’s start this exciting journey together. With dedication, guidance, and the right tools, you’ll be ready to create and arrange music like never before.
