About James
I graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg, Russia with teacher Mikhail Kit (bass, born in Ukraine, graduate of Odessa State Conservatory) and Valentina Gagen (graduate of Leningrad State Conservatory). I lived in Russia from 2009 until 2022, performing in such prestigious venues as the Grand Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, Shalyapin Hall (Ufa), Saratov State Opera, the Moscow House of Unions and the State Kremlin Palace. Among other roles, I've performed Vaudemont in Tchaikovsky's "Iolanta", covered the role of Hermann in "Pique Dame", and in March 2025 I performed the lead tenor role Andriy in Ukrainian composer Mykola Arkas's opera "Katerina" under the direction of Lada Shylenko at the National Theatre's festival Jelenlét in Budapest, Hungary (sponsored by the Ukrainian Centre of Documents and Culture). Currently based out of New Jersey, USA. Thanks to years of experience performing Russian repertoire inside Russia, I know it's not as hard as it seems. Like any other language, it just takes hard work.

Learn Russian and/or Ukrainian diction from the standpoint of someone who learned how to do it themselves, cutting through the fluff and sticking to the important elements that will give it an organic feel. We'll incorporate practical IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) and the nuanced meanings of the lyrics so that you can sing with precision and purpose. We'll start by ironing out the key elements of pronunciation so that listeners will not only understand the lyrics, but that they'll feel natural. No prior experience necessary. Whatever your current level, I'll help you demystify the pronunciation.
