About William

I'm a multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, painter, and music instructor based in Westchester, NY. Music is deeply important to me and I love sharing that passion. I graduated from Bard College in May 2022, majoring in Studio Arts. I have been a music instructor for multiple years and have performed live at venues and private events. My main instruments are guitar and bass, with my teaching ability for each instrument ranging from beginner to touring musician. My main guitar focal point is finger-picking. I began my guitar career by learning the methods of country-blues players such as Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Elisabeth Cotten, John Fahey, Big Bill Broonzy, and others. While I play a large variety of music and teach all levels, advanced fingerpicking is my greatest strength as a musician. Lastly, I am a slide guitar player.

About the lesson

My teaching style depends on the student's age and ability. Student's at different levels and ages will need various approaches. For everyone, I try to be calming, supportive, and as fun as possible; there are differences for various ages. With very young students, it's important to be as supportive as possible; especially when learning new things that can often be frustrating. Having an environment of support is paramount to me in these lessons. For teens, I try to talk more about the music they like and focus on what they're interested in. Most adults enjoy talking about what they're interested in as well, with brief few-minute jam sessions during lessons. This helps with learning how to improvise, write songs and generally improve upon what we were working on during the lesson.
