About Christopher

For over seven years, I’ve worked with students of all levels—especially in school and college settings—to help them discover and develop their passion for guitar. I view every lesson as a collaborative space where we work together to reach goals that matter to the student. My lessons are grounded in the fundamentals: chord transitions, scale practice, rhythm, strumming techniques, and basic music theory. But I go beyond the basics by encouraging students to be creative and explore their own musical interests. Whether we’re learning a favorite song, building a solo, or analyzing a chord progression, I make sure students understand the “why” behind what they’re playing. I also support students who want to write their own songs, improvise, or perform live. I’ve helped students prepare for recitals, open mics, and even college auditions, offering not only technical feedback but emotional support along the way. One of my proudest teaching experiences involved helping a student with performance anxiety gain the confidence to lead their school’s music ensemble. I aim to create a respectful and supportive environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes, and take pride in their growth. Guitar should be fun, expressive, and enriching—and I design every lesson with that in mind.

About the lesson

Teaching guitar for seven years has been a deeply fulfilling adventure, one that has shown me the incredible diversity in how people learn and connect with music. Every student arrives with their own background, goals, and musical tastes, and I tailor my lessons to honor and support that individuality. My teaching method focuses on developing strong foundational skills, including finger strength, chord transitions, rhythm, and timing, but also emphasizes the importance of creativity and musical expression.

I work to demystify music theory by linking it directly to songs and styles students love, making abstract concepts approachable and fun. One memorable moment was when a shy student gradually grew more confident and ended up playing lead guitar in their school band, performing in front of hundreds of people. That transformation is what inspires me every day. I also encourage students to explore improvisation and songwriting, helping them see the guitar not just as an instrument to replicate music but as a tool for personal storytelling.

Using technology like metronomes, backing tracks, and recording software, I enhance the learning process and keep practice engaging. Above all, I aim to create a supportive, patient, and encouraging environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and grow. Whether someone wants to play casually, compose, or perform, I’m dedicated to helping each person find their own voice and joy in playing guitar.
