About Evelyn
I’ve spent the last 11 years coaching chess students of all ages, helping them grow both individually and as part of a team. My teaching style combines structured lessons with opportunities for exploration and collaboration. I specialize in running group sessions where players can solve puzzles together, discuss openings, and analyze master games. By working in this way, students gain a deeper understanding of strategy and improve their confidence on the board. I’ve directed school programs and youth clubs that focus on team building and competitive readiness. In my lessons, respect for fellow players is just as important as learning tactics. I guide students through performance under pressure, encouraging calm and calculated decision-making. I believe each student has unique strengths that can be nurtured in a supportive environment. Over the years, I’ve seen students go from hesitant beginners to confident competitors. My aim is to make every lesson inspiring and practical. Chess should be about growth, connection, and joy. Together, we’ll create lasting skills that shine in every game.

My chess teaching approach blends logical thinking with creativity. I begin with key concepts like development, center control, and tactical awareness. Then, we move into deeper strategies involving pawn structures, piece activity, and long-term planning. I use guided practice games to help students apply what they’ve learned. Mistakes are analyzed with care so that lessons stick. I place a big emphasis on time management, showing learners how to balance speed with accuracy. For the Exam Taker, I design focused practice drills to meet performance goals. For Immigrant/Newcomer students, I make explanations simple and clear, removing unnecessary barriers. I also use puzzles and scenario training to prepare students for real games. Confidence grows naturally as learners see their progress. I believe chess should feel both challenging and enjoyable. With patience and dedication, I help students sharpen their strategy. Together, we build a mindset that wins both on and off the board.
