From beginner to advanced - Hi, my name is Steven and I have been teaching Clarinet and Saxophone on and off for almost 40 years. My main goals are to find out how the Student intrinsically relates to the Clarinet and vice versa. Throughout ongoing posture and breathing discussions, the correct holding and fingering of the Clarinet is essential. We don't want to head off into the future without these points thoroughly checked out and supported or corrected, if need be. Better late than never on the above. I have a customized approach to classes which allow me to hone in on and develop the student's strong points while supporting their overall abilities, regardless of age and musical skills. What I teach my students. - - PROPER BREATHING, BODY AND HANDS POSTURE, LIPS AND TONGUE POSITION. The concept of abdominal breathing and appropriate body posture including arms, back, head and fingers, coupled with lips and tongue positions - MUSICAL NOTATION Basic musical concepts and terms, reading and understanding music sheets - PLAYING BY NOTE Keep music count, maintain correct note value and pause during the play and independently learn new pieces. - TRAIN THE MUSICAL EAR AND RHYTHM Pick out musical tunes by ear and intonations and acquire a more informed perception of a musical piece. - PLAY AND UNDERSTAND VARIOUS MUSICAL STYLES Musical styles focusing on the standard classical departments to duets and some lighter fare (jazz and rock primarily for saxophone) . May we journey happily through the world of music, learning all the time and appreciating what it offers us!

I have known Steven for decades prior to his move to California and have kept in touch with him since.
Steven's music has always been an integral part of who he is. It has seen him through hardship and joy. I know that he feels the need to pass this love on to aspiring young talent as well as instill that passion for music onto others.
