About Eric
I received my BSc at UBC last year (May 2021) with a Major in Geophysics and a Minor in Philosophy. I completed this degree with an A/A+ average with Science Scholar / Dean's Honour List standing.
Geophysics as a field relies heavily on concepts in physics, math, and computer science which makes me suitable for tutoring in these areas.
My education in Philosophy has not only made me well-versed in concepts in logic and general reasoning, but has provided me the ability to communicate and put structure to concepts so that I can pass my knowledge in all areas of science onto willing students.

I believe that students should not merely learn step-by-step procedures when solving problems in physics and mathematics. This might be helpful for solidifying concepts in memory, but I believe that this approach should be paired - whenever possible - with a clear understanding of why each step takes place.
This pedagogical idea drives my emphasis on breaking down concepts related to particular problems prior to problem solving and developing generalized procedures. Not only will this approach help prepare students for upcoming tests and assignments, but I believe that it provides students with increased success in the long term, whether it be with an upcoming test/assignment, a course, or throughout a degree.
Before a lesson I will ask which topics you need help with and will prepare accordingly. During the session I focus on providing help with the particular concepts or problems within these topics that you are struggling with. To accomplish this, I will first work through the concepts involved, then help you develop a procedure that you can use to solve this problem and others like it so that you can succeed in novel problems related to the topics at hand.
Throughout my lessons I make an effort to incorporate general approaches that will help students learn and solve problems pertaining to new topics that they might encounter in the future. I also believe that all students learn differently, so my lessons are tailored to how you most naturally understand the given topics.
My sessions are safe spaces for ALL students (LGBTQ+ friendly). I value patience and respect in my sessions and will treat students as equals.
Lessons are limited to high school students or first year college/university students who need (or want) help with physics, math, or logic. I can help with a wide range of topics within these areas at this level.
