About Kelly
I hold a Master’s degree in History from UMass Boston, and I love to teach American history, military history, Western civilization, world history, Roman history, and Russian history. My passion for knowledge comes from making information accessible and understandable. I believe history is best experienced as stories that connect people, ideas, and cultures across time. I enjoy sharing what I know, inspiring curiosity, and helping students gain the confidence and tools they need to succeed—whether through essay writing, note-taking strategies, or seeing the past from a fresh perspective.

My Approach as a Tutor As a tutor, I focus on making history, social studies, and geography engaging and approachable by emphasizing stories, connections, and critical thinking rather than rote memorization. I believe students learn best when they can see the “why” behind the material, not just the “what.” Teaching Methods & Techniques I encourage thinking outside the box and approaching topics from different perspectives, helping students connect history to broader themes and real-world experiences. I adapt lessons to each student’s learning style—whether visual, verbal, or hands-on—because my goal is to adjust to how you learn, not the other way around. A Typical Lesson Plan Warm-Up & Connection: Start with a quick check-in or question that makes the topic relatable (e.g., “If you lived during the Industrial Revolution, would you rather work in a factory or invent something new?”). Storytelling & Context: I introduce the lesson with a story, image, or surprising fact to spark curiosity and show how the past connects to today. Explore & Discuss: We break down the main ideas together through discussion, questions, and multiple perspectives. Students don’t just memorize—they learn how to think like historians. Skill-Building & Practice: Along with content, I teach tools for learning: How to take effective notes How to catalog quotes and evidence for essays How to organize ideas into strong arguments, building a thesis statement, how to cite, how to blend in quotations, and so on. This way, students build academic skills that help them feel more confident working on their own. Wrap-Up & Next Steps: End with a quick recap, highlight a real-world connection, and set a small, achievable goal for next time. What Sets Me Apart I hold a Master’s in History from UMass Boston in disability history and American culture, and I bring academic expertise, creativity, and adaptability to every lesson. By making history feel alive, relevant, and personal, I help students build confidence and critical thinking skills. Who Lessons Are For I work with middle school, high school, and undergraduate students. Whether you need support with assignments, essay writing, or just want to see history from a fresh perspective, I’ll tailor lessons to meet your needs.
