About Callum
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in violin and have been teaching for over 7 years. My experience includes private instruction, youth orchestra coaching, and small group classes for all age groups. My teaching philosophy balances discipline and joy—helping students develop strong technical skills while staying inspired by the music. In my own musical journey, I’ve performed as a soloist, ensemble player, and orchestral violinist. These experiences allow me to bring real-world insight into lessons, helping students not only master the instrument technically, but also learn how to communicate musically. I understand how performance preparation, stage confidence, and musical storytelling go hand in hand. I approach each student with patience, adaptability, and encouragement. Whether your goal is to perform confidently, audition for ensembles, or simply enjoy the process of learning, I’m here to guide your progress step by step. Every lesson is an opportunity to grow, express, and build lifelong musical skills.

Each lesson is structured to support the student’s current level while encouraging steady growth through focused practice. Beginners start with understanding violin posture, basic finger placement, and simple bowing exercises. I incorporate rhythm games and short, engaging pieces that help build early confidence. Students also begin reading music gradually, laying a solid foundation before advancing to more complex techniques. As students gain skill, lessons become more layered—introducing scales, shifting positions, vibrato, and expressive playing. I emphasise tone control, bow distribution, and musical phrasing to help students bring more emotion and technique to their performances. Intermediate learners work on classical pieces, duets, and select études to enhance musical fluency. For advanced students, the focus shifts to refining interpretation, preparing concert-level repertoire, and exploring stylistic variation. We analyse professional performances, practice difficult passages in depth, and fine-tune technique through advanced drills. Lessons are highly individualised and shaped around each student’s goals, whether it’s solo performance, auditions, or ensemble work.
