Although you can definitely pass a German B2 exam, it doesn’t mean you’ve actually mastered everything at the B2 level. And passing the exam is obviously not the main goal of taking German lessons. B2 is considered to be an upper intermediate level that takes about 10 weeks if you’re on an intensive course schedule. Completing the course means you can speak really fluently and understand 80% of the situations that you find yourself in. So it can be enough to work in Germany, but you still want to keep going past that level of course. We can’t guarantee that everyone will be able to complete B2 in 3 months, but if you are disciplined and dedicated enough to study the language it’s possible. But it will mean that you are spending no less than 8 hours a week studying your courses.
For the average person it takes about a year to go up a level, so trying to do it in 6 months or less would be a challenge. This also means that you’ll have to perfect B2 in six months and quickly after starting your studies for C1. It’s a lot of work since you are moving from a conversational level to your first fluency level. By the time you reach C1, you should be able to understand a wide range of texts with demanding concepts and implied meanings. And at this level, you are expected to be able to express yourself properly without having to look for words to finish your ideas. It’s also part of the last of the German language levels, meaning that you can understand basically anything you read or hear. We say this, so you can have in mind what will be required from you if you decide to in the future get a job that requires a C1 level of understanding. However, with persistence anything is possible, and we believe you can reach your desired German learning goals.
You can most definitely learn to speak German all on your own, by dedicating an hour or two every day to your studies.
