About Mackenzie
Teaching is one of my many passions, especially teaching ESL. I worked in South Korea as an ESL teacher to the sweetest elementary students for 3 years. I worked there during most of the Covid pandemic, so I used a variety of teaching methods, from Zoom meetings with 20 students to reading with a student after school in my classroom.
When I am not in the classroom, I love being active and in nature. I am from Alaska (USA) with mountains and rivers surrounding me on all sides. I enjoy hiking, running, and yoga. Once my body is sore from all the activity, I love curling by my fireplace with a hot americano or herbal tea with a romantic thriller book.
I also love travelling. I have been to several countries and loved learning about their cultures, food, people - everything! One of my goals is to go to all seven continents in my life. As of 2023, I have been to three continents. Looking forward to more adventures in the future!

I have a unique range of teaching methods and techniques. I prefer to let my students take initiative and let me know first what they want to learn and what their preferred learning style is (visual, auditory, hands-on, etc). I then adapt my lessons to fit their needs to help them succeed. I have taught ESL to as young as 7 years old, and up to adults.
A typical lesson plan for a 30 minute session would be:
-Greetings, talk briefly about a specific subject/event that the student can use their language for and warm up to the lesson.
-Review prior lesson, vocabulary, phrases, etc.
-Learn new vocabulary, phrases, etc, through a powerpoint, worksheet, or book
-Practice new vocabulary/phrases through one or two interactive activities.
-Closing, review what we did and learned in the lesson, and discuss what the next lesson will look like.
