About John
I've been studying percussion for the past 14 years and have good experience with all mallet instruments in various styles and genres of music. I've played mallets in small folk duets to large big bands and everything in between so my teaching will vary based on what the student wants to learn.

For percussion students, I will start with working on technique with some warm-ups and then get into learning new music that will challenge the student. for a student that wants to study jazz mallets and improv, we'll start by getting comfortable with 4 mallet technique and then start learning songs. For jazz students specifically, we will analyze each song from a theory point and discuss how we might play the chords and create a solo over the form of the song.
