About Miho

Thank you for reaching out to me.
Allow me to share a little about myself.

I was born in Japan and am a native speaker of Japanese. After teaching in a high school for more than 10 years, I made a life changing decision to leave my job and study in Australia. I completed my Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at the University of Queensland while living in Brisbane.

During this time I also studied Italian (I love Italian food!) and tutored Japanese at a small language school. My studies in Applied Linguistics provided me the opportunity to research and develop a deeper understanding of Second Language Acquisition. I found this particularly interesting as I learnt a lot about myself while unpacking the many readings and theories, things like why it took me so long to obtain English skills, and why I could speak much better on particular topics (food and sports!).

The success of learning a second language is based on many things. I try to incorporate my experiences in education and my own language learning into my lessons.

About the lesson

Your lessons are going to be personalized and run based on your skill level and goals. They can include special interest topics I have identified as beneficial for your learning. A textbook and original learning materials will be provided as needed. A personalized note based on a lesson will be shared after your lesson.

At the moment, I have several students who focus on short conversations for traveling, the preparation for the exam like N5, etc. Some of them are aiming to study in Japan in the future, and of course, planning to visit Japan. One of them is dreaming to take a wedding ceremony at a shrine in Japan. I am super excited about it.

I am also teaching English to Japanese people, and I offered an opportunity for my students (who are learning Japanese and who are learning English) to meet online and offline for language exchange. I hope to have more opportunities for that in the future.
