About Emilie

Hi! My name is Ms. Emilie Luscomb, and I’m a passionate, dedicated science educator with a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, specializing in Fish and Wildlife Management. I’ve had the privilege of working hands-on with animals in both field and clinical settings, including at the Avian Conservation Center’s medical clinic and White Oak Conservation, where I cared for endangered species and led educational summer camps. My love for science and nature shines through in my teaching. I bring over 3 years of experience working with students in both classroom and informal education settings. I believe every student can succeed in science when given the right support, encouragement, and tools to explore the natural world with confidence. As a tutor, I’m professional, reliable, and deeply committed to helping students grow. I strive to create a warm, engaging learning environment where questions are always welcome and curiosity is celebrated. Whether your student needs help understanding biology, ecology, environmental science, or just building stronger study habits, I’m here to support their journey every step of the way.

As a science tutor with a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology and a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science, I bring both academic knowledge and real-world experience to every session. My goal is to make science exciting, approachable, and meaningful for students in grades 5 through 9. Teaching Method & Techniques I use an interactive, student-centered approach that combines clear explanations with real-world examples from my background in wildlife conservation, zoo education, and fieldwork. I often incorporate visual aids, storytelling from my experiences (like working at a zoo or avian clinic), and hands-on activities or experiments where possible. My focus is on helping students understand the “why” behind scientific concepts—not just memorize facts. Typical Lesson Plan Each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs, but generally includes: A quick review of prior knowledge or homework A clear, engaging explanation of the day’s topic (using visuals, examples, and discussion) Practice problems or creative activities to reinforce learning Time for questions, review, and confidence-building support I also integrate study skills and strategies to help students feel more prepared for tests and classroom success. What Sets Me Apart I don’t just teach science—I’ve lived it. From caring for endangered species at White Oak Conservation to running educational summer camps and assisting at an avian medical clinic, I bring stories and insight from the field into every lesson. I believe in nurturing curiosity and showing students that science is not only important—it’s awesome. Who My Lessons Are For My tutoring is ideal for 5th–9th grade students who are: Struggling with or want to get ahead in science Preparing for middle school or high school transitions Interested in wildlife, biology, or environmental science Needing support with homework, study skills, or science projects Whether your child needs help understanding life sciences, ecosystems, the scientific method, or preparing for quizzes, I’m here to support and inspire them every step of the way.
