I have teaching experience with beginning to advanced studio art classes in painting, drawing and printmaking as an assistant instructor at UCLA from Spring 2017 to June 2019. My passion is to offer students the opportunity to form a relationship with their work and to engage with artists who came before them. Helping students to find purpose and self-reflection in their work, as well as, sharing the historical context, brings me an immense amount of joy and fulfillment as a teacher. It has been my experience that developing curricula for the unique needs of the class and the student, fosters a vital space for individual growth. Students working with me will refine their goals through open communication, readings and guided discussions, exercises, homework, and tutorials. Feedback is an imperative part of growing as an artist. I encourage, specific yet respectful, discourse to help students find their own voice as artists.
Working together, I offer my students a safe space to explore themselves as artists and to achieve their creative objectives. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced in your art education, I look forward to a conversation about your practice!
I am continuously exploring the relationship between concept, intuition, and intellect, through mark making in my paintings. As a tutor in painting and drawing, I specialize in supporting students of all ages to find their voice, using two-dimensional space to reveal their content and narrative. My lessons are based on each student’s distinctive interest and curiosity to experiment with the medium. Whether you are an advanced painter looking for a second set of eyes and criticism, or a beginner looking to take your first steps at creating visual expressions, there is so much to explore! As an art teacher, I offer a unique opportunity for students to work at their own pace. I introduce them to new materials and engaging practices. Asking students generative questions is instrumental to our creative process.
I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from School of the Art Institute of Chicago and my MFA in Painting from UCLA. While at SAIC. I was the first student in ten years to be nominated and accepted to the Norfolk Summer School of Art Residency at Yale University for the Ellen Battell Stockel Fellowship. I am passionate about teaching and believe when we nominate ourselves as artists the potential for growth is limitless. I believe creativity is within us all. Fostering creative growth through mentorship is one of the best ways to move forward in developing a creative practice.
