About Kanika
I grew up near Vancouver, BC, and decided from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. This led me on a journey to complete my Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Psychology. Along the way, I had a variety of jobs, but my favorite jobs were always those where I was able to learn more about people, and help them to the best of my ability. Notably, I found the most rewarding jobs I had where those where I was able to teach others. Whether that be as a campus Residence Advisor, helping students adjust to campus life, or as a teaching assistant and tutor, helping students break down complex subjects into manageable pieces, I enjoy explaining things to others in a way that is clear and concise. With my degree, I will be pursuing a career as an Optometrist and look forward to explaining ocular health to my patients one day.

The first thing I do as a tutor is ask my students what kind of learner they are. Auditory, visual, kinesthetic, etc. A students' style of learning dictates my lesson plan. For example, I spend more time explaining concepts verbally to an auditory learner but am more likely to create a flowchart for a visual learner.
I prefer to have material the student needs help with ahead of time so that I can create less complex problems around the same topic and then go through those with the student until we are able to solve the initial, more complex problem. I believe in learning by doing, so I really like to make sure that my students are practicing and applying what I teach them.
I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Psychology. In the past, I have tutored high-school math, and can tutor in subjects including biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry at the university level. I have tutored students from Grade 1 to upper year university students, and have had a lot of experience tailoring my teaching style to meet student needs.
