About Rachel
Why me? I’m patient, adaptable, and skilled at explaining tough ideas in ways that make sense for the everyday person. I've taken 10+ AP courses and have scored 5s, developed my own curricula and taught introductory robotics programming/CAD classes in the past, and have even done social science research behind the effects of mentorship and role models--trust me, I love passing down any knowledge I can in ways that will help YOU. I have plenty of formal experience in tutoring math as a part of my high school's Mu Alpha Theta chapter, and have applied and been accepted to several college prep programs, such as QuestBridge College Prep Scholars, Rice SOAR, Wellesley VOICE, and UPenn PEEP. I navigated the college application process as a first-gen low-income student, matching to Stanford University in the QuestBridge National College Match, and I can't wait to help other students find their footing as well.

Hi! As a tutor, I focus on making concepts clear and approachable by breaking problems into simpler steps. I like to go over multiple existing approaches to find whatever works best with my students--whether that's a math or a college application strategy!
Typically, I'll first review past content briefly and go over previously assigned practice problems if applicable. I also like to outline goals at the beginning of the session so both you and I know what we'll be accomplishing for the day. Then, I'd dive into a new area with guided examples--this could be going through probability SAT math questions, introducing the financial aid process, or reviewing what makes a great essay. Lastly, I end tutoring sessions by summarizing key takeaways and assigning follow-up practice/research, to be discussed next time!
All high school students are welcome!
