About Goldie
I graduated from Samford University with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Some of my favorite roles I performed in include Widow Clack in Tomorrow the Island Dies (the world-premiere of Ryan Scott Oliver's new musical), Officer Lockstock in Urinetown, and Bart Simpson in Mr. Burns. I have also performed professionally as Milk White/Granny/Giant in Into the Woods with the Virginia Samford Theatre, Tobias in Sweeney Todd with Woodstock Arts, two cabaret performances with Places Please Theatre Company, and most recently as a tour performer with the Lexington Children's Theatre in Alice in Wonderland and Quetzali and the Comic Book Queen (the world-premiere of Alvaro Saar Rios' new play). I am excited to teach curious students who aren't afraid to be a little silly and work hard! I love to play games with my students and help to get them performance ready.

I love teaching young students through engaging games that reinforce musical concepts, as well as practices they can take with them after the lesson. I begin with a brain, body, and voice warmup in every acting or voice lesson, around 10 to 15 minutes. I then introduce and begin instructing on a musical concept of the day (rhythm, diction, stage directions), which leads to a game. I usually do a little quiz about what we learned, before working on either repertoire if it's a music lesson, or a theatrical scene or song if it's for musical theatre. In all of my classes no matter what kind, I always cultivate a radically encouraging space where the student is free to make mistakes. Learning is about taking risks and not being afraid of failure, and I love to teach students to be confident in themselves and their work, as well as practice strategies they can use without my instruction.
