About Gabriel
My academic pursuits span multiple disciplines. I am currently a graduate with a degree in Visual Arts (Graphic Design), obtained in Milan, Italy. I am a polyglot with proficiency in multiple languages: English (Academic IELTS overall score of 8.0), Italian (B2), French (B1), and intermediate Latin, with additional academic engagement in Middle English and Old French, as well as expertise in English phonology. Since the age of 11, I have had a deep interest in Western humanities, with a particular focus on art (art history), folklore, linguistics, and music from the late Middle Ages and the early modern period. In 2017, during my second year of high school, I identified an inaccuracy concerning medieval architecture in a history textbook and wrote a letter to the Editorial Committee of History at the People's Education Press (PEP), which responded by confirming the validity of my observation. I can provide supporting evidence and documentation if required. From 2018 to 2021, I studied English and Linguistics at a Chinese university. During that time, I attended a summer program in Classical Studies at the Pontifical Salesian University and took courses in Cultural Heritage at the University of Bologna. However, throughout this journey, I realized that my interests were gradually shifting toward disciplines that require greater creativity. As a result, I passed the entrance exam and was admitted to the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, despite having no formal background in the visual arts. On September 9, 2023, I delivered a lecture on Medieval Art History for the Chinese platform "Xiyu Culture" (熙屿文化). This course aimed to introduce the history of medieval art from an interdisciplinary perspective to students and scholars from various fields, covering topics such as illuminated manuscripts, folklore studies, symbolism, and more. My organizational and planning skills were appreciated by fellow researchers. Since 2019, although I have no formal academic training in music, I have been composing music through memory and self-study, adopting musical styles that differ from mainstream contemporary trends. Approaching Western culture and the world from an Eastern perspective, my music serves as a lens through which I strive to build bridges between realities often separated by barriers and divisions. Thanks to my skills, independent thinking, exploration, and study, I released my debut album, Young Easterner in Old West, at the end of October 2024. I currently manage the social media account “GabryelCatte” on Xiaohongshu (Rednote).

With a deep expertise in classical Chinese folklore, I specialize in integrating education with entertainment, incorporating contemporary topics, popular expressions, and authentic linguistic usage into my teaching. This approach ensures that learning Mandarin is both engaging and closely aligned with modern linguistic trends. My academic focus extends to traditional culture across China and the broader East Asian region (the Sinosphere). By taking into account the linguistic and cultural background of learners from Indo-European language families, I conduct in-depth analyses and systematic cultural contextualization, assisting those interested in Sinophone traditions as well as individuals seeking to integrate into Chinese-speaking societies. My ultimate goal is to serve as a bridge across time and space, using language as a conduit to construct cultural maps and foster meaningful connections between individuals, thereby contributing to a world brought closer together through mutual understanding.
