About Joshua

Hello! My name is Josh, and I offer tutoring services for students from Pre-K through undergraduate levels across a wide range of subjects. My strongest area of expertise is science, particularly biology, which I am currently majoring in as a college student. I have always been passionate about science and love helping others understand the world around them through biology, chemistry, and related topics. While I specialize in science, I am also comfortable assisting with mathematics, social studies, history, and general education coursework. I believe that learning should be engaging, clear, and adapted to each student’s needs and learning style. My approach is patient, respectful, and focused on building confidence as well as understanding. I enjoy helping students succeed and grow in both their academic performance and personal self-belief.

As a current college student studying biology, I bring a fresh and relatable perspective to tutoring. I know what it’s like to face academic challenges and the pressure to perform, so I aim to create a supportive and judgment-free space. I work well with a wide range of learners, from young children who are just starting their educational journey to college students working through complex material. I am especially good at breaking down difficult science concepts into simpler, more digestible parts that students can understand and remember. I use visuals, examples, and interactive methods whenever possible to make learning more enjoyable. If a student doesn’t understand something the first time, I’m always ready to try a new explanation or approach. My goal is to meet students where they are and help them move forward with confidence.

Although science is my main focus, I am also available to assist with other subjects, including math, history, and early childhood education. I do not currently offer English or language arts tutoring, but I am happy to help in almost any other academic area. I can support homework completion, test preparation, study skills, concept review, or even basic organization and planning. Whether you’re trying to pass a difficult course or just need help keeping up, I will do my best to guide you through. Every student learns differently, so I take time to understand what works best for each person I work with. I am flexible, adaptable, and always willing to adjust based on the student’s needs. No question is too small, and no topic is too advanced for us to tackle together.

If you're interested in tutoring, feel free to reach out and I’ll be happy to discuss how I can help. I’m open to one-time sessions, weekly check-ins, or ongoing support depending on what you’re looking for. My goal is always to help students feel more confident and capable in their studies. I’m reliable, understanding, and genuinely invested in seeing others succeed. Whether you’re a parent looking for support for your child or a college student needing a study partner, I’d love to help. I’m here to make learning less stressful and more manageable, no matter the subject. Let’s work together and see how I can support your educational goals!

The first lesson will focus on getting to know the student and understanding their unique learning needs. During this session, I will ask a few questions to learn more about their academic strengths, challenges, and goals. We will also discuss any specific subjects or topics they are currently struggling with, so I can better target support where it’s needed most. This time together allows me to observe how the student learns and what teaching approaches work best for them—whether they benefit from visual aids, hands-on examples, repetition, or discussion. Based on what I learn, I will create a personalized lesson plan tailored to their learning style and academic needs. The goal of this introductory session is to build a foundation of trust, comfort, and clear communication. By the end of the lesson, the student and I will have a shared understanding of how we’ll move forward together for the most effective results.

Details

As a dedicated private tutor, I aim to provide flexible, affordable, and personalized learning support for each student. My standard hourly rate is $20 for one-on-one tutoring, which includes both lesson preparation and individualized attention during the session. This rate applies to all subjects I offer, including science, math, and general studies, from Pre-K to undergraduate levels. I believe quality tutoring should be accessible, and I’ve priced my services to reflect both the value of my time and the needs of students and families. Every session is carefully tailored to the learner’s goals and learning style, ensuring that each hour is productive, focused, and engaging. Whether your child needs help catching up or you’re a college student needing support before an exam, the $20/hour rate includes thorough support. Students can expect interactive lessons, personalized guidance, and follow-up resources when appropriate. This base rate is ideal for those looking for flexible, one-time, or occasional support.

To help make tutoring more affordable for those seeking long-term or consistent support, I also offer multi-hour packages. My 5-hour pack is priced at $90, which provides a $10 discount compared to booking individual hours. This is a great option for students who need weekly sessions or are preparing for midterms, finals, or standardized exams. The 10-hour pack is priced at $160, saving $40 off the standard rate. This larger pack is ideal for ongoing tutoring throughout a semester or academic term and offers the best value for students committed to steady academic improvement. Packages can be scheduled flexibly based on your availability, and unused hours can be carried over within a reasonable time frame. These packs can be used for any combination of subjects I offer. They are designed to offer both financial savings and academic consistency.

For students who prefer or require virtual sessions, I offer webcam-based tutoring at the same standard rate of $20 per hour. These sessions are conducted via secure video platforms and include all the same benefits as in-person lessons. Virtual tutoring can be especially helpful for students with busy schedules, transportation limitations, or social anxiety. I use digital whiteboards, screen sharing, and interactive tools to create a hands-on learning environment—even from a distance. My virtual sessions are clear, well-structured, and fully focused on the student's success. Whether you're at home, on campus, or traveling, webcam sessions ensure you never have to miss a lesson. All you need is a quiet space, an internet connection, and a device with video capability. I'm happy to accommodate remote learners and ensure that the quality of education remains high.

If in-person sessions are preferred, I do charge a travel fee of $22 per session to help cover the cost of transportation. This fee ensures that I can arrive promptly and prepared for each lesson without the additional strain of travel expenses. I’m located in the Moorhead/Fargo area and am generally available to travel within a reasonable radius. If you're located farther away, I’m happy to discuss options on a case-by-case basis. The travel fee is added to the hourly rate or to the total cost of any prepaid package used for in-person sessions. In cases of group lessons or back-to-back tutoring nearby, travel fees may be reduced or waived. I always strive to be flexible, fair, and transparent with pricing. My goal is to make tutoring convenient and accessible—whether you choose online or in-person support.

As a special offer for all new students, I provide a free 30-minute introductory session. This session allows us to get to know each other, discuss academic goals, and evaluate the student’s needs before committing to a full paid session. It’s a great opportunity for families or students to ask questions, explore tutoring options, and experience my teaching approach. There is no obligation to continue, though many students find this session helpful and choose to move forward with regular support. I believe that a good tutor-student fit is essential for success, and this first meeting helps establish that connection. During the free session, I will assess the student’s learning style and identify areas where support is most needed. I’ll also share ideas for a customized learning plan and how I would approach future lessons. This introductory meeting sets the stage for a collaborative, productive tutoring relationship built on trust and personalized learning.
