About Ruby
Hi! I’m a neuroscience student on the pre-med track at the University of Rochester, where I also work in an Alzheimer's research lab. I was salutatorian of my high school and have earned A’s in all the subjects I tutor. In college, I helped a peer go from failing a calculus midterm to earning a B+ on the next exam. I also volunteer with a STEM outreach program, where several students have told me our lessons inspired them to pursue STEM careers. I’m committed to helping each student succeed with professionalism, patience, and a personalized approach.

As a tutor, I focus on building confidence and understanding by tailoring each session to the student’s learning style and pace. I use visual aids, analogies, and interactive problem-solving to make concepts stick, especially in math and biology. A typical lesson starts with a quick review, followed by a guided walkthrough of new material, practice problems, and a short wrap-up to reinforce key points and address any confusion. What sets me apart is my ability to break down complex topics using creativity and patience- skills I’ve developed through teaching dance, tutoring peers, and volunteering in STEM outreach programs. My lessons are ideal for elementary to high school students seeking support in math (from basic arithmetic through precalculus) and science (especially biology). I strive to create a positive, engaging environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and enjoy learning.
