About Yas

Hi! My name is Yas and I’m a British indie-pop artist, songwriter, and producer based in Brooklyn. I grew up playing classical piano and jazz saxophone before I started writing and producing my own music. Following my move from London to New York for college, I dedicated myself to the craft of songwriting, which always comes first in my music. Straddling the sonic worlds of pop, rock, and folk, my story-driven songs detail the intricacies of every-day life with honesty and simplicity.

I received my BFA from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU, where I developed my songwriting, production, performance, and audio engineering skills. I studied under renowned industry professionals including Bob Power (D’Angelo’s producer), Bobby Wooten (Carly Rae Jepsen’s bassist), JD Samson (of Le Tigre), Jeff Peretz (recorded with Mark Ronson), and Nick Sansano (Sonic Youth’s producer). Notable alumni/former students of CDI include Maggie Rogers, FLETCHER, Del Water Gap, Nija Charles, Take A Daytrip, and Blu DeTiger.

I have experience writing and producing with and for other artists and songwriters, such as Stella Smyth, SAFA, and Chloe Jane.

I work in a range of genres, but primarily favor pop/indie-pop, folk, and R&B. My main purpose is to help you achieve your musical goals. If you think I might be a good fit, please reach out so we can talk further. Looking forward to working together and making great music!

About the lesson

I have over six years of music production and songwriting experience, and have taken classes with the likes of Grammy Award-winner Bob Power and John Legend-cowriter Dave Tozer.

In our lessons, we’ll take a personalized approach to your learning based on what you want to achieve. Want to just record your own tracks? We won’t overcomplicate it, starting with the basics of how to use a DAW like Logic or Ableton. Want to learn how to mix? We’ll delve into plug-ins, busses, signal flow, reverb, delay and much more.

Songwriting is my bread and butter, and I'll teach you different song structures, melodic and harmonic tricks, as well as how to show and not tell in your lyrics.

As somebody who was once lost in the songwriting and music production world, I understand how it can feel daunting, so we’ll take a hands-on, step-by-step approach, working on skills and projects to build your confidence.
