About Emily
When I teach flute, I’m not just helping someone learn an instrument—I’m helping them open a door to joy, relaxation, and creativity. My focus is adult students, especially those over 50, who are often looking for something enriching, meaningful, and deeply personal. I recognize that returning to music—or starting fresh—can feel intimidating. That’s why my lessons are designed to be welcoming, paced just right, and full of small, motivating milestones. We work on tone, breathing, phrasing, and rhythm, but we also laugh, experiment, and sometimes just listen to beautiful music together. I provide clear goals, customized practice plans, and plenty of encouragement. My teaching style is flexible, adaptive, and based on mutual respect—I meet you where you are and help you grow from there. Whether your dream is to play along with recordings, join a group, or simply feel the joy of playing a melody at home, I’m here to help you get there gently and confidently.

Because we work primarily with adults over 50, we’re also deeply attuned to the practical and physiological aspects of adult learning. Our instructors are sensitive to physical limitations such as arthritis, reduced lung capacity, or visual strain, and we adapt techniques and expectations accordingly. We focus on posture, breath support, hand positioning, and stamina in ways that protect your body and sustain your ability to play with comfort and ease. We never push for speed or complexity until you feel ready—and even then, we keep the pace grounded in your own rhythm, not anyone else’s timeline.
