About Uma
I am a violin tutor with over 5 years of experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance. My teaching emphasises a holistic and therapeutic approach, encouraging emotional expression and musical storytelling. I integrate improvisation, soundscape creation, and journaling to foster personal growth and mindfulness. Lessons are designed to reduce stress, promote self-awareness, and enhance well-being. I work with neurodiverse learners, trauma survivors, and adult students seeking healing through music. Each session provides a safe, supportive space for exploration and creativity. Students learn to connect their emotions with sound and musical ideas. I encourage playful experimentation alongside technical development. The violin becomes a vessel for expressing inner thoughts, feelings, and stories. Lessons promote emotional resilience, creativity, and mindful listening. I guide learners to develop both technical skill and expressive confidence. Playing becomes a reflective and transformative experience. My goal is to help students discover the violin as a powerful tool for self-expression and healing.

My violin lessons focus on developing fluent sight-reading skills. I teach students to read ledger lines, complex rhythms, and multi-part scores confidently. Lessons emphasise systematic learning and building strong visual-to-finger coordination. Exercises improve speed, accuracy, and interpretation. The Musical Theatre Enthusiast and The Worship Singer benefit from personalised drills for instant reading fluency. Each session combines technical skill-building with practical repertoire. I guide students to recognise musical patterns and anticipate phrasing. Sight-reading becomes a natural extension of their playing. Lessons are structured, interactive, and progress-oriented. Students gain confidence in performing unfamiliar pieces with ease. I encourage consistent practice and mindful reading strategies. My approach builds both skill and musicality. Students leave each lesson ready to tackle new music confidently.
