About Robert
Hi! I'm Rob. I'm a professional tutor & PhD researcher in theoretical physics. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Physics, and a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics both from the University of Oxford. I am currently coming towards the end of my PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Sussex. I have spent time at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), working in a plasma physics lab on a diagnostic to measure ion and neutral flows in the Plasma Krystal-4 (PK-4) experiment on the International Space Station. Also at Caltech, I have worked in the Department of Mathematics on a High Energy Physics Theory project in the AdS/CFT correspondence. Most recently, I have spent a year and a half at the University of California, Riverside as a doctoral research scholar - continuing my PhD research in theoretical particle physics (specifically, models of the Universe involving warped extra dimensions). I have over 7 years of experience teaching students (mostly) between the ages of 6 and 18. Ranging from Gifted and Talented primary school tuition, to A Level / IB & Oxbridge Physics / Maths / Engineering admissions preparation, mature students looking to get back into education, and leading tutorials & group classes at Universities in the UK and the US. Learning more about the Universe every day is what gets me up in the morning! Being able to share the wonders of science and maths with others only adds to this joy!

Although the PAT, MAT, STEP & ENGAA papers mostly focus on first year A level material, there is a small amount of second year material that creeps in. The summer leading up to the admissions cycle is a crucial time to recap previously covered material, and get ahead on the year 13 content required by some admissions tests. In these sessions - we will start to look at the relevant year 13 content, while keeping sharp on the year 12 content you have already seen through previous PAT/MAT/STEP/ENGAA paper questions. As we proceed through the summer and into the autumn, we can ramp up the past paper preparation - where I will mark, and give feedback on a past paper you can submit at the beginning of each session. This format is very flexible. If you feel you are best helped by modifying this outline, then I can work in a way that best suits you. 2022 Admissions Cycle - My Students Oxford Physics - 5/7 accepted Oxford Maths - 3/4 accepted Oxford Engineering - 2/2 accepted 100% acceptance to interview phase.

Perfect! Love the methodology and the ways of teaching of that tutor
Perfect! Robert has been very thorough and patient. His teaching style is very engaging and boosted my confidence in tackling complex areas of Further maths and Physics which I had struggled with.
Rob started tutoring me for PAT lessons and his approach was extremely effective and I passed!
Robe also coached for my Imperial College and Oxford Interviews.
I have now been made an offer which I am super delighted about.
I will highly recommend Robert +++++
Thank you so much Rob!Perfect! nice and thorough

Robert is amazing! He helped my daughter with her preparation for the PAT for Oxford Engineering over 7-8 months. All his lessons were structured and well prepared as he systematically went through the topics. It clearly helped since my daughter got called for interviews and Robert’s interview prep was also very helpful, mimicking the actual interviews quite closely. My daughter was elated when all the efforts paid off and she received an offer to read Engineering at Oxford this year! Robert has been super supportive, empathetic, patient and kind throughout her entire journey. If you’re thinking of engaging Robert for your child, just do it! Highly highly recommended!!!
Rob taught me physics for 4 months in the build-up to my A levels. He was a phenomenal teacher, who took his time to explain complex concepts using many methods until I understood them. I went from a B in January to an A* in my final A level, and it would not have been possible without his help. I definitely recommend Rob to any student looking to achieve top grades in Physics.
Robert is a remarkable tutor. His A-level Physics lessons with my daughter became events to be looked forward to; not only were they carefully and efficiently prepared but genuinely engaging as he has an unusual ability to explain difficult concepts with clarity and enthusiasm.
The depth of his knowledge of Physics and Maths is outstanding, but most importantly he was able to share his passion for the subject which encouraged her to develop and extend her own involvement beyond the syllabus.
At the end of the academic year she won the Physics prize and is now looking forward to continuing with both Maths and Physics next term.
So many thanks! We can highly recommend Rob as a tutor. He has been absolutely brilliant with our son Harvey who was studying for his physics and maths a-levels. He boosted his knowledge and confidence no end, very professional, explaining things in an easy and logical way and extremely knowledgeable. Can’t recommend Rob enough.
Our son has been tutored by Rob for the last 8 months. We have been absolutely delighted by his professionalism, knowledge and teaching ability and cannot praise him enough. First, we have a clear lesson timetable and though we try not to change times, Rob has been extremely understanding when we have needed to reschedule. Our son demands a lot from his tutors, and Rob is able to meet him at his current level and push him further. After every tutorial, our son is buzzing with new thoughts, and keen to talk through everything they covered (though Physics is a mystery to me). Rob’s lessons are extremely well organised, and he sends though a lesson overview after each session. Rob seems to have a natural ability as a teacher and a sensitivity to my son’s needs that many more experienced teachers have not managed. Rob is accessible and easy to communicate with- both to parents and to tutees. Knowledgeable, wise, interesting and kind are words used by my son to describe Rob. Many thanks to you!
I cannot express my immense gratitude at having found Robert. He exhibits a patient, munificent and erudite approach toward tutoring, and truly it would seem that nothing is too much trouble to ask. He is very diligent when listening to areas I struggled with or showed difficulty toward. However, his concise and clear explanations have made these more complicated topics some of my favourite areas of study within physics and mathematics, for example when approaching problems concerning electrostatics or simple harmonic motion. Furthermore, Rob was a remarkable help when preparing for the PAT test in addition to other assessments in physics and mathematics for my A-Levels. Through his help and support I was able to secure offers to study physics at a myriad of leading universities and even achieved an A* in both my Physics and Mathematics A-Levels. I honestly would have been lost without his guidance. I have had lessons with several physics tutors who truly do not compare. I can candidly claim that Robert’s method of teaching is exemplary in that you not only understand the material covered at the time, but continue to do so long after and then are able to apply it to a diverse range of other scenarios. His passion and enthusiasm for the subject are unrivalled which is evident in his incredible breadth of knowledge that is transferred directly to his teaching. Following our lessons my fascination for physics was enormously expanded and inspired me to approach more challenging problems independently. I cannot recommend him highly enough!
Rob is so passionate and enthusiastic about physics, it’s so inspiring. He’d often give presentations at the school I went to, and they’d always leave me with a new understanding of the topics, and craving more and more knowledge! He makes an excellent tutor, who is very thorough and genuine. It is clear that he has time for you, and wants to help you further your knowledge. Very highly recommended.
I am so glad that I met Robert! He is honestly an amazing tutor who breaks complicated topics and questions apart and then teaches them from first principles. His patient and meticulous approach to tutoring me has been extremely helpful in helping me through the October A-level exams which I done with less than two months of revision. His extensive knowledge and passion for maths and physics make him an excellent and motivated tutor. I would highly, highly recommend him.
Robert is a fantastic tutor an excellent scholar. His extensive knowledge in physics and mathematics allows him to explain even the most advanced concept with ease.
Robert first tutored me around three years ago, helping me with A level physics. I would argue that he is a large part for the reason I achieved the grade I did; mainly due to his encouraging words and seamless explanations of complex physical phenomena.
The perfect tutor, Robert would be an excellent fit for any aspiring scientist.
Rob is a fantastic tutor who effectively identifies areas of the subject that need work. He is able to explain things from a foundation level and build to more complex ideas with ease, his method of teaching is very efficient and memorable.
Robert is a genuine person that cared about my education.
He was enthusiastic about physics and consistently provided heaps of useful and easy to understand examples, he also always made sure I had plenty of practice questions. His ability to teach is incredible, we went through topics very thoroughly and in depth.
An outstanding tutor that I definitely recommend.Robert tutored me when I sat and passed the Oxford physics aptitude test (PAT). I bought Robert many very difficult problems I was stuck on during this time and there was not a single one that he was not able to answer. He would often also look to explain things in accessible and logical ways that strongly improved understanding. He also has a wealthy bank of interesting and insightful challenge problems to offer, combining both maths and physics in very satisfying and unexpected ways.
