About Zara
Hi, I’m a singing tutor with over 10 years of experience and a Licentiate of Music in Voice. I specialize in working with adult beginners, hobby singers, and those returning to music after time away. My approach is calm, supportive, and designed to take the pressure off learning so your voice can grow naturally. Whether you’re singing for the first time or reconnecting with a long-lost passion, I create a welcoming space where curiosity and self-expression come first. I focus on breathwork, vocal relaxation, posture, and mindfulness to help you feel grounded and free while singing. Together, we’ll develop your tone and confidence at a pace that suits you. I love teaching styles like Jazz, Folk, Blues, and Contemporary Adult, helping each student find the genre that brings them joy. Sessions are centered around enjoyment, creativity, and vocal health, not perfection. Singing is more than just notes—it’s a form of self-care and confidence-building. Many of my students come for the music and stay for the growth they experience in all areas of life. If you’re ready to start—or restart—your singing journey, I’d be honored to guide you. My teaching approach is rooted in building confidence, refining pitch accuracy, and enhancing vocal expression—especially tailored for personas like *The Fiddler* and *The Music Major*. These students often come with different strengths: The Fiddler may have an intuitive ear and strong instrumental background, while The Music Major brings technical understanding and academic discipline. I adapt my methods accordingly, using targeted techniques that nurture their unique musical identities.
Breathing exercises form the foundation of every session. They not only support vocal control but also calm nerves and promote presence during performances. For pitch accuracy, we use ear training apps and simple call-and-response drills, sharpening intonation and musical memory. The metronome helps in rhythm alignment, crucial for phrasing and timing.
We also emphasize vocal health through warm-ups, hydration, and mindful practice habits. Students are encouraged to record their sessions—hearing progress boosts self-belief and fosters a deeper connection with their voice. Expression is explored through dynamics, storytelling, and emotional layering. Most importantly, I create a space where experimentation is welcome, and mistakes are stepping stones. With time and support, students begin to sing not just with technique—but with heart and intention.
