About Cheryl
I have over fourteen years of experience teaching piano, backed by an Advanced Diploma in Piano Performance. My passion lies in helping students connect emotionally with the music they play. I believe music is more than just notes on a page—it’s a way to express feelings and tell stories. I work closely with each student to build a strong foundation in both theory and technique. This approach ensures they not only play well but truly understand the music. I enjoy tailoring lessons to fit each student’s unique goals and interests. Whether they want to perform, compose, or just enjoy playing, I guide them every step of the way. I focus on developing their listening skills and musicality alongside technical ability. Patience and encouragement are key in my teaching style. I want students to feel confident and inspired at every lesson. Seeing students grow and develop a deep love for music is the most rewarding part of my job. I create a supportive environment where mistakes are part of learning. Together, we explore different styles and challenge their abilities. My goal is to nurture lifelong musicians who play with heart and skill.

My piano teaching approach focuses on helping students excel in performances, competitions, and recordings. I emphasize proper posture to ensure comfort and prevent injury during long practice sessions and on stage. Phrasing is a key part of musical expression, so I guide students to shape each piece with feeling and clarity. Stage presence is equally important, and I coach students on how to connect with their audience confidently and naturally.
For recording preparation, I introduce digital tools like DAWs and audio analysis apps. These help students understand their sound better and improve their performance quality. Whether preparing for exams or playing in church settings, I tailor lessons to support their specific goals. I encourage students to develop a strong musical foundation while refining their individual style.
With consistent practice and the right techniques, students build confidence and perform at their best. I create a positive and motivating environment, celebrating progress and addressing challenges with care. Together, we work to bring out the best in each student, preparing them for every stage they encounter.
