About Elliot
Hello! My name is Elliot, and I have spent the last 5 years tutoring in a variety of personal and professional settings. From supporting classmates, to spending two years working in a college tutoring center, to helping students in my free time, I have always been passionate about helping others learn. I’ve worked with a wide range of students, from middle schoolers to older adults returning to school, and I pride myself on creating a calm learning environment, free from judgement or impossible expectations. I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology and am competent in early math, pre-algebra, algebra, pre-calculus, and beginning and advanced statistics. I typically work with students for 1-3 hours a week, depending on what students need. I take a step-by-step approach to learning, adapting to the learning style of the student and using various techniques including applying the material to real-world scenarios, breaking the material down into small manageable chunks, and providing context to allow a student to fully understand the material rather than simply memorizing the steps needed to solve a problem. I aim to make learning fun, and cater each session to the individual I am working with. I welcome questions and encourage students to challenge what I teach, as it allows the student to take control of their learning experience. I typically work with students who need extra support with material assigned by teachers/professors, but can develop lesson plans as needed on a case by case basis.
