About Sun
PhD Candidate in Theoretical Physics at UC Berkeley, currently working on 1. Theory of quantum information & computation
2. Quantum machine learning & quantum simulation
Bachelor’s degree in Physics & Computer Science from University of Chicago, specializes in quantum mechanics, condensed matter physics and machine learning
Scored 44/45 in IB final exams; 7/7 in Physics, Math, Chem, Econ; 1560 in SAT; 116* in TOEFL. I was a key member of the Shude IPhO competition team (top 3 in western China) selected from over 10,000 students
Professional Experience:
1) Research & Teaching Assistant - UC Berkeley: tutor first-year college courses; facilitate the Professors’ teaching schedules
Researching Scholar - Argonne National Laboratory: In charge of a key piece in a research led by the Director of Argonne Lab on computational neuroscience. Developed SOTA generation algorithms for statistically realistic brain and muscle MRI stack data
2) Research Assistant - Department of Physics, University of Chicago: Responsible for the theorization of an important part of the Deans’ group on condensed matter & nonlinear physics
3) Research Assistant - Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, University of Chicago: Played a part in an internationally-renowned quantum computation research group, researched on scaling efficiency of quantum network consisted of diverse physical implementations
4) Academic Tutor - Shude High School: tutored IB and AP students in Physics and Math, leading to substantial grade improvement for students

Teaching Method and Techniques:
Since beginning my tutoring career in 2017, I have developed a comprehensive teaching methodology for physics and mathematics. My approach involves a detailed explanation of new concepts, integrating mathematical formulations, physical interpretations, and historical perspectives to provide a well-rounded understanding. This is followed by a demonstration of several example problems, which I solve step-by-step in front of my students. To reinforce learning, I then assign problems for the students to solve independently, providing targeted support when difficulties arise. This method ensures that students not only learn how to solve specific problems but also understand the underlying principles and their applications.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
Each lesson is meticulously tailored to the needs and goals of the student. Initially, I assess the student's current understanding and objectives through a diagnostic exam. Based on the results, I create a customized, detailed lesson plan that is refined in collaboration with the student to ensure their satisfaction and engagement. Lessons are structured to progress logically and efficiently towards the student's goals, incorporating explanations, problem-solving sessions, and periodic reviews to solidify knowledge and address any lingering uncertainties.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
My tutoring service stands out due to my exceptional knowledge and dedication to physics education. I am not only well-versed in the subject but am also actively contributing to the field through the development of an innovative physics textbook on quantum mechanics. This textbook has been highly praised by leading physicists globally, underscoring my expertise and commitment to advancing educational resources. My deep understanding of the subject matter enables me to provide insights and learning experiences that are rarely matched in online physics tutoring.
Who the Lessons Are For:
My tutoring services cater to a diverse range of students:
High School Students: Especially those preparing for top marks in standardized exams like IB, AP, and A-level physics, or those aiming for medals in physics competitions.
College Students: I provide support for students at any year of their college journey who aim to excel in their physics courses, whether it's to pass their exams or deepen their understanding of complex topics.
This comprehensive approach ensures that each student receives personalized attention and guidance tailored to their specific educational needs and aspirations.
