About Violet
Hi, I'm a piano tutor with 12 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music, focusing on both piano and organ. My academic background gave me a strong foundation in classical and sacred repertoire, but my heart also beats for the rhythmic charm of ragtime, the bounce of stride, and the soulful grooves of early jazz. I love helping students explore the colorful world of historical piano styles. Whether you're a school-aged beginner or an adult rekindling your musical passion, I tailor lessons to meet your goals and musical interests. I emphasize strong technique, stylistic authenticity, and musical expression. With me, you'll not only learn to read music but also to listen, feel, and swing. We dive into the rich history behind each style, so you gain context as well as skill. From Scott Joplin to Fats Waller, we'll explore the pioneers who shaped American piano music. My piano teaching approach is all about unlocking creativity and building confidence through improvisation. I focus on helping students express themselves freely by exploring different styles like jazz, blues, and pop. Whether we’re developing melodic ideas, learning how to comp behind a singer, or building spontaneous arrangements, each lesson is hands-on and musically engaging.
I teach key techniques such as voice leading, rhythmic variation, and dynamic phrasing to make improvisation sound polished and expressive. We’ll explore how harmony shapes emotion and how to use that knowledge in real-time playing. I believe every student has a unique voice, and my job is to help you find it at the keys.
I use loop-based exercises, creative prompts, and chord progressions to make practice fun and focused. You’ll learn to trust your ears, follow your instincts, and take musical risks. My lessons are tailored to suit your pace while offering regular, thoughtful feedback. I support students who are serious about growing as improvisers—whether in jazz, pop, or something in between. Together, we’ll build a strong foundation and expand your musical vocabulary. You’ll gain the skills to create music on the spot, with confidence and joy.
