About Lauren

Hi! My name is Lauren and I graduated from Evangel University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Degree in 2017. My primary instrument is piano and my secondary is voice. I have been playing piano for 21 years, cello for 17, and studying voice for 10. I have many years of teaching experience including private lessons, choirs, nannying, substitute teaching, running a middle school after school program, and now work full time at a non-profit focused on students from 6-12th grade! I believe music is a universal language that unites us all and is an essential part of self expression, confidence, and learning. My goal is to help you grow in you musical gift to enable you to grow in all areas of life. Growing up, music was the thing that kept me going more times than I can count and I hope it can be the same for you too!

About the lesson

I am passionate about the individual student. With a background in music education and non-profit work with students, I believe each student has a need for confidence, belonging, and self worth that can all be fostered through learning and growing in their gifting. Music is essential to brain development, emotional development, and a greater understanding of the world as a whole. In lessons, I believe in strong fundamentals, greater historical context of music, and creating fun through learning.

I am qualified and comfortable in teaching from beginner levels to advanced intermediate levels in piano, voice, and strings. My string instrument is cello but I am competent in violin and viola as well. Although music theory was always the part of music I dreaded most as a kid, I now see how essential it is in forming a well rounded and confident musician. Through music theory, either integrated in lessons or tutored separately as its own subject, I believe each musician can grow their skills, challenge their brain and positively impact other areas of study as well. As music skills improve, so do math skills, history knowledge, literacy, and more!

A typical vocal or instrument lesson would follow this format:
- Review of music theory assignment
- Warm up
-Review of last weeks practicing assignments
-Play or sing through piece/portion of focus (repeat as appropriate depending on number of assigned pieces)
-Review trouble spots
-Assign theory and practice assignments for the upcoming week.
