About Nathan
As a dedicated and passionate piano instructor, my journey in music education has been marked by a profound love for teaching and a deep appreciation for both classical and jazz music. With over three years of teaching experience, I bring enthusiasm, patience, and a tailored approach to each lesson, ensuring that every student receives the individualized attention they need to thrive. My own musical journey began at a young age, and it has been enriched by years of rigorous training and performance experience, which I now share with my students.
My teaching philosophy centers around creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel inspired and motivated to achieve their musical goals. I believe in the importance of understanding each student's unique learning style, preferences, and aspirations. By doing so, I am able to design lessons that are both enjoyable and effective, whether the focus is on mastering complex classical compositions or exploring the improvisational world of jazz.
Throughout my career, I have developed a diverse range of teaching strategies to cater to students of all levels and backgrounds. My lessons typically include a mix of technical exercises, sight-reading, ear training, and repertoire selection tailored to the student's interests and skill level. I strive to make each lesson dynamic and interactive, encouraging students to ask questions, experiment with different styles, and develop their own musical voice. By incorporating both classical and jazz elements, I aim to provide a well-rounded musical education that fosters creativity and technical proficiency.
Beyond the technical aspects of piano playing, I am deeply committed to nurturing a lifelong love for music in my students. I provide continuous support and feedback, celebrating their progress and helping them overcome any challenges they may encounter. Witnessing my students' growth and seeing their confidence blossom is incredibly rewarding and drives my passion for teaching. Ultimately, my goal is to empower my students to express themselves through music and to equip them with the skills and confidence to enjoy playing the piano for years to come.

In each piano lesson, my primary objective is to create an engaging and supportive environment that caters to the individual needs and goals of my students. I begin by assessing each student's current skill level and musical interests, allowing me to tailor the lesson content to their specific objectives, whether they are beginners just starting out or advanced players looking to refine their technique.
Throughout the lesson, I employ a variety of teaching methods and resources to keep the learning experience dynamic and stimulating. This may include traditional exercises, scales, and etudes to build technical proficiency, as well as interactive activities such as sight-reading, ear training, and improvisation to enhance musicality and creativity. By incorporating a mix of classical and jazz pieces, I aim to expose students to different styles and genres, fostering a well-rounded musical education.
I place a strong emphasis on developing both technical skills and musical expression. While technical exercises are crucial for building a solid foundation, I also encourage students to explore the emotional and interpretive aspects of music. This involves understanding the nuances of phrasing, dynamics, and articulation, as well as developing a personal connection to the pieces they play. By balancing these elements, students can achieve a deeper understanding and appreciation of the music.
At the end of each lesson, I provide constructive feedback and set achievable goals for the next session, ensuring that students have a clear path for their practice and progress. I may also assign specific pieces or exercises to reinforce what was covered during the lesson. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a lifelong love for music and empower students to express themselves confidently and authentically through their piano playing.
