About Claire
8 years of experience teaching guitar has created a deep understanding of how students learn best. This tutor works with school and college students who are excited about music but may not know where to start—or how to get better. Each lesson helps students build confidence, technique, and a love for playing. Learning is not just about scales and chords. It’s about helping students see progress in a way that feels real. By focusing on songs students enjoy, lessons stay engaging and personal. Students often say they look forward to practice because it feels like playing, not studying. Adapting to each student is key. Some students learn best by watching, others by doing, and many by hearing. Lessons are designed to meet those needs. For example, one student who struggled with reading chord charts improved dramatically by using color-coded fretboard visuals. Guitar + Music Composition + Digital NotationI teach guitar in combination with music composition and digital notation. This helps students not only play but also write and share their own music. My methodology includes using notation software like MuseScore or Noteflight so students can visually understand what they play.
Every lesson is built around clear communication and adapts to how the student learns best. We study real music pieces to understand form, dynamics, and phrasing. I encourage creativity, guiding students in composing simple pieces and gradually building their musical voice. We also do comparative studies of classical, modern, and film music to inspire and inform student compositions. This holistic method develops musicianship and fosters creative growth.
