About Maribel

¡Hola! ¿Cómo estás? I'm Maribel, a qualified native Spanish teacher with a background in psychology and years of experience helping teenagers succeed in their Spanish GCSE.
I specialise in supporting students who struggle with language learning, whether due to exam pressure, low motivation or different learning needs (ADHD, autism, or other challenges). My job is to understand how your child learns, so they can thrive. I’ll prepare them for the exam, but also help them develop a lifelong skill they’ll carry into future travels, studies or careers.
I’ve worked with dozens of students across the UK, helping them achieve higher marks, greater independence, and genuine curiosity for Spanish. If you’re looking for someone who truly understands how teenagers learn and what they need to thrive, I’d love to help.
I guide each student to build confidence, enjoy the process, and perform at their best. Not just for the exam, but for life!

Each lesson is tailored to your child’s goals, needs and learning style.
My method combines brain-based strategies, study coaching, and engaging content to make Spanish easier to remember and more enjoyable to learn. I design custom learning programmes, and every class is structured to build real understanding and memory — with clear goals, visual support, and active techniques that stick.
We follow the Spanish GCSE curriculum closely, but always go beyond it: building vocabulary, grammar, listening, and speaking through tasks that make sense to the student. I also help teens develop study strategies, emotional confidence, and a deeper connection with the language.
Students learn at their own pace, with interactive materials and dynamic activities that keep them motivated.
Whether they aim for a top grade or need to rebuild confidence, I create a safe, structured and encouraging space to grow.
Learning Spanish with me is about understanding, expressing, and truly owning the language.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Spanish fluently because it's my birth language. But I don't think that's all you need to be able to teach a language. It's essential to know grammar and how to explain each detail easily. It's pretty usual for us to believe our language works in a certain way because we get used to using it frequently. But, not so many people ask themselves: "Why is this like that" or "What rules am I using while speaking." We, as teachers, need to think about that and translate to our students the answers to those questions in a way they can understand too. That's why we study and ensure to make the language easier for our learners.
  • Can you name a living, historical, or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

That is a tricky question for me. Spanish is a language we use in twenty countries. Each country has its culture, its characters, and its history. That makes it a little bit difficult to name just one. Although, I'll speak for Latin America and say someone we all know is "El Chavo del Ocho." He is a fictional character that people between 18 and 50 know. Even outside those age gaps, they may know him. He is a character from a series we all watched when we were younger. I believe he is someone we can relate to and make us remember our childhood.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition, or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

Yes, we have this phrase: "Por si las moscas" which means: "just in case." But the actual translation of it is: "for if the flies." I find this amusing and helpful to explain something essential when we learn a language. If you really want to learn to "translate" everything is not the best way. We can use in different ways in each language phrases and words.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, giving you access to a diverse range of cultures and people. From Spain to Argentina. Mexico to Colombia. Cuba to Ecuador. There are so many cultures and different ways in the world to speak Spanish. I want to share that and my excitement for my language with people interested in learning.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Grammar is something difficult to grasp when trying to learn Spanish. Therefore I don't recommend Duolingo as the only source to learn the language. Hiring a tutor or a teacher is the best option. This person can help you to avoid making mistakes and keep them in the future. Also, being motivated and eager to learn usually helps a lot. I focus on maintaining that during our lessons. Another recommendation is to change your cellphone language! It is fun, and it helps to learn vocabulary too.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

One of my biggest hobbies is writing. Literature and grammar were something I enjoyed a lot when I was younger. Of course, now I read what I wrote in those days, and it's fun because of the many mistakes I used to have. Of course, that didn't stop me at that time. I studied more, even at home. If I had doubts, I google them to ensure I was writing things correctly. Even when I was, I wanted to make sure until I felt confident enough. That's how it is to learn a language in general. We begin this journey with baby steps until we get enough confidence to speak and use the language. Learning a language is not something an app or a teacher can give us. It is something we need to want and to have the motivation to study, to search. We need a ferreous curiosity so we can improve and get better!
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I'm a person who enjoys meeting people. I've met my best friend online and many people the same way. I'm connected to other countries in Latin America, which allows me to access the local Spanish they speak there. I'm from Argentina, but currently living in Spain. This journey has been nutritious for me since I could learn how they use the language here. It was so interesting to recognize the differences we have on it, even in the same language, depending on where we are. You are not the only one who wants to learn Spanish. Learning this language is something I d every day, by learning how they use the language in other countries. Doing it is so fun for me! I'd also like to say that we are always learning something new about this language together.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

I've been working as an online teacher for long enough to be able to bring to the class materials, games, and different topics entertainingly and differently. I do not use books, I enjoy using images, presentations, and interactive games where you need to think, but the approach is fun enough for you to remember the topics we are learning. I've worked with different people with different aims, and I was able to watch them improve and be better in each class. I don't think I'm a Superprof only because of my methods or because I've been teaching for a while. I'm sure of that because of the success stories my students tell me after their travel.
