I am an engaging and effective tutor with training and years of experience. I have been passionate about Spanish, Latin American literature, and music for much of my life and I bring that same energy to the classroom every day.
I tailor my curriculum to meet each student’s goals and am able to accurately target my class with relevant activities. I most recently taught business English to corporations in Mexico City, and have spent years working with both students aged 12-18 and adults. I will work with you to establish an effective curriculum/course plan that meets your language learning goals.
I am patient and have training in proper correction techniques for both oral and written exercises. When teaching vocabulary or grammar, I first create a need so that my student is in a scenario where they naturally use the target language or grammar while speaking. I am well practiced in asking guided and leading questions to elicit productive responses. When I teach literature, I make sure my student is aware of the historical and literary context.
My students enjoy my classes as they are naturally discursive and participation-based. I rarely lecture, and check often for questions and comprehension.
I work mostly in the non-profit field but have taught and tutored both Spanish and ESL courses for the past 6 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies and Spanish, and was teaching English in Mexico City before Corona arrived.

Proficient verbal and written Spanish translator
Alex stepped in mid-semester to help my son, who has cerebral palsy, with his college Spanish Literature class. He was completely skilled in Spanish, was very familiar with all the readings, and adept at tutoring in a fun and engaging way. Alex was on time, responsible, and trustworthy at all times.
Alex would be a terrific tutor for any student -- from elementary school all the way up through college. He is enthusiastic, engaging, and very knowledgable. He gives his all and leans into teaching. Highly, highly recommended!
