About Suzette
I have been tutoring students since 2013. I tutored students who weren't proficient in reading and writing in an after-school program through Smart Start Education in Connecticut. Then, a year later, through Smart Start Education, I started tutoring a third grader who had dyslexia. I assessed him first to see where I needed to start with this student. I taught him with structured literacy. (Orton-Gillingham) He went up two grade levels by the end of the school year. I tutored him for three years. Through a recommendation, I started tutoring another 3rd-grade student with dyslexia for three years using structured literacy. (Orton-Gillingham) This student also went up two grade levels. I have also tutored students in various subject areas in high school and middle school.

My method of teaching reading is the use of structured literacy. (Orton-Gillingham) With structured literacy, they will be taught letter-sound identification, spelling, fluency, sentence, and paragraph writing. I also use the Lindamood-Bell Visualize and Verbalize method of reading comprehension. This method is used when we are reading novels in class. I use this method and it helps them to visualize what they are reading. With writing, I take the students step by step with essay writing. First, we do it sentence by sentence. Then we do an introduction paragraph. Then the next day, we will do two body paragraphs. Then the last day, we will do the conclusion. I also pre-teach vocabulary words before we do activities involving those vocabulary words. Pre-teaching vocabulary is helpful when they are doing activities, Blooket, and testing. These lessons are for students 1-12th grade. The lessons can be differentiated by grade level.
