About Selina
With over seven years of experience in K-6 special education, I specialize in supporting students with learning disabilities, autism, emotional disturbances, and intellectual disabilities. I've co-taught reading, writing, and math in 6th-grade classrooms, working closely with teachers to implement effective accommodations. I also serve on the SWPBIS and math MTSS committees, helping to create schoolwide behavioral and academic supports. Committed to individualized instruction, I ensure all students make meaningful progress toward their IEP goals and thrive in inclusive environments. My passion for education drives me to create exceptional learning opportunities for every child.

My teaching methodology incorporates traditional methods along with multisensory strategies to enhance reading skills such as decoding, fluency, and reading comprehension. Each lesson begins with a clear objective and a review of prior knowledge, using real-world examples to engage students. For decoding, I employ multisensory strategies, such as tapping out sounds, using visual aids, and incorporating kinesthetic movements, to help students break down and recognize words. I focus on fluency through repeated reading exercises, modeling proper pacing and expression. To support reading comprehension, I use formulaic procedures like RACE (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain) and graphic organizers to guide students in organizing their thoughts and providing evidence-based responses. In guided practice, I offer checklists and feedback to reinforce these skills, helping students build confidence and independence. Independent practice allows students to apply decoding strategies and demonstrate fluency and comprehension. The lesson concludes with a review, encouraging elaboration and reflection, while providing positive reinforcement to instill confidence. Formative assessments help inform future instruction and support continued growth.
