I adapt instruction based upon curriculum-based assessments and address individual educational plans and goals to meet the needs of my students. I provide all students with a positive learning experience through verbal praise and encouragement in order to enhance self confidence in their abilities to learn new skills.
I am a seasoned Special Education Teacher. I have a Masters Degree in Education. My major course of study was Special Education. Throughout my career I have been dedicated to students and adults with special needs. I began my career working with adults with developmental disabilities in group homes, developmental centers, in-home care and on jobsites. I am a highly adaptable and experienced educator. I have worked with an array of highly diverse students and adults as well. I’ve had the opportunity to work with students with severe emotional disturbances, significant learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder (with and without hyperactivity), autism, oppositional defiant disorder and physical challenges.
Objective: I would like to utilize my diverse expertise, skills and knowledge to tutor students online.
Experience: Twenty-five years of experience teaching children and young adults with learning, emotional and developmental disabilities in both the classroom and community settings.
I have worked with a broad spectrum of students and clients from toddlers in Early Intervention Programs, elementary school students with severe learning disabilities, middle school students with non-severe handicaps, high school students with severe emotional disturbances, and adults with developmental disabilities in community settings.
I possess the ability to provide a positive learning environment through open communication and positive group interaction in order to promote the individual growth of the student/client through the creation of a structured warm and caring environment.
I have experience in all aspects of the education of children with learning and emotional difficulties from participation in the screening process to determine the need for special services; the formulation and implementation of Individualized Educational Programs (IEP); performing formal and informal assessments of individual student academic, behavioral, and social skills; creation and implementation of classroom behavioral management systems; and consultation with colleagues regarding curriculum, instruction with integrated technology, classroom management and behavioral systems; to the performing of initial and annual formal assessments.
