About Carlos
Hi! I'm Carlos Rodriguez, a Stanford University undergraduate studying mathematics and physics (and some philosophy here and there). I'm studying with the goal of pursuing graduate school in either applied mathematics or philosophy and eventually becoming a researcher and professor.
I am passionate about scientific communication and about helping others feel passionate about (or at least more comfortable with) math and science. As such, I have soft spots for both 1. students who struggle but really want to like/excel in math, and 2. students who are already comfortable with math but are motivated to learn more outside of school. Whichever group you fall in, I will make sure to meet you where you are at and tailor the tutoring experience to your needs and wants.
In my free-time, I enjoy reading popular science and philosophy books, listening to music, spending time with friends, and amateur photography.

A typical lesson plan includes
1. A review of the previous lesson(s)
2. Time for custom problems/questions
3. Solving a problem and explaining your reasoning out loud
What sets me apart as a tutor is
1. My emphasis on deep understanding. When presented with a problem, I will ask tutees to explain why the problem is important when considering the scope of the subject, and what their reasoning is for finding a solution.
2. My judgement-free environment. Math (at all levels) has its own set of challenges, and I am open to receiving all kinds of questions, no matter how "basic" or "stupid" they may appear. In reality, there are no "basic" or "stupid" questions, and there is no place for judgement when learning math.
All my lessons [except logic/mathematical proof-writing] are geared for
1. Middle-school and high school students (with sufficient background for the lesson at hand)
2. College underclassmen (freshmen, sophomores) pursuing mathematics, science, and engineering careers
Notes:
Logic and mathematical proof-writing classes are appropriate for anyone who has completed pre-calculus and above.
Real analysis requires proof-writing experience and calculus I and II.
