About Vanya
For more than 7 years, I’ve worked as a piano teacher, composer, and performer, helping students connect deeply with their instrument. I earned my Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition (Piano Emphasis), and I focus on helping students build technique while exploring their own creativity. Music is a lifelong journey, and I believe every student should have the tools to improvise and compose. My lessons include foundational skills like scales and sight-reading, but we also spend time building original pieces and spontaneous improvisations. I love seeing students light up when they realize they can make music that’s truly their own. I teach beginners how to trust their hands and ears. I also help more advanced musicians unlock new ideas through harmonic exploration and expressive phrasing. We analyze great works, but we also create new ones—yours. My approach is supportive, flexible, and always rooted in real musical practice. You’ll gain confidence in both technique and self-expression. My piano teaching focuses on helping students become confident musical collaborators. We cover topics like lead sheet interpretation, rhythmic responsiveness, chord voicings, and stylistic adaptation. Transposing becomes approachable through consistent practice and creative application. I use visual tools, real-time playalongs, and detailed feedback to make learning feel clear and achievable. Students often remark on how much their timing and musical sensitivity improves. Each lesson has a goal, but also room for curiosity and exploration. I guide students through the subtle art of blending, supporting, and enhancing others musically. My lessons cultivate both technical growth and emotional awareness.
