About Katie
Hello! My name is Katie Marcantel. I am currently a student at ULM entering into the radiology technologist professional program. I have achieved a score of 35 on the ACT English section. Also, my mother is an elementary English teacher at Woodlawn Elementary. I often help her with grading and plans, so I am well acquainted with the curriculum. I am a mother of a four year- old little boy and an aunt to many. I am patient and understanding with kids, while always pushing them to give it their best! For our sessions concerning spelling, I would include successfully completing spelling homework as well as developing an astute understanding of what the words mean and how to use them.
For understanding grammar, we would complete homework and gain an understanding of:
1. Parts of Speech: Understanding the different roles words play in sentences, such as nouns (people, places, things), verbs (actions), adjectives (describing words), adverbs (modifying verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs), pronouns (replacing nouns), prepositions (showing relationships), conjunctions (connecting words or clauses), and interjections (expressing emotion).
2. Sentence Structure: Learning how to construct sentences correctly, including the use of subjects, predicates, clauses, and phrases. This includes understanding simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences.
3. Punctuation: Understanding how to use punctuation marks (like periods, commas, question marks, exclamation points, quotation marks, etc.) to clarify meaning and indicate pauses or stops in sentences.
4. Tense: Learning about verb tenses, which indicate the time of an action or state of being (past, present, future, etc.).
5. Agreement: Knowing how to make sure subjects and verbs agree in number and person, as well as ensuring pronouns agree with their antecedents.
6. Syntax: Understanding the order and arrangement of words within a sentence, which can impact clarity and style.
We will work on these depending on what the student is learning about in their particular lesson.
