About Iris
I have been teaching violin for more than 7 years and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory with a violin focus. My speciality is working with adult beginners and learners returning to the violin. I help students explore non-classical styles such as folk, blues, worship, and jazz. Improvisation is a highlight of my lessons, but it’s introduced gradually so students feel comfortable. Simple exercises are used to build technique while keeping lessons accessible. Ergonomic positioning is emphasised to prevent tension and create healthy habits. I also bring mindfulness into each session, encouraging relaxed and focused playing. Lessons are designed to be both enjoyable and effective. Creativity and self-expression are always encouraged. For those who enjoy easy classical, I provide approachable repertoire to build skills with confidence. Each student learns at their own pace, supported with patience and care. I believe music should be inspiring at every stage. Let’s rediscover the violin together, with freedom and creativity as our guide.

My violin teaching approach is practical, structured, and focused on sight-reading mastery. I guide students through exercises that strengthen visual recognition and finger placement. Ledger lines are introduced early, making higher and lower notes less intimidating. Rhythm is practised consistently, from simple beats to complex time signatures. I also train students in multi-part scores to prepare them for ensemble playing. Each lesson builds fluency step by step, with progress tracked over time. The aim is to make reading second nature. For Musical Theatre Enthusiasts, this leads to confidence in fast-paced rehearsal settings. For Worship Singers, it means playing comfortably in layered musical environments. My teaching adapts to the pace of each student while keeping goals clear. I believe that music reading should feel natural, not stressful. Lessons are interactive and supportive, encouraging steady growth. Ultimately, I want every learner to feel confident in picking up new music instantly.
