Hi, I'm so glad you're here!
I believe learning Korean should be fun, motivating, and practical — that’s the heart of my teaching. I bring a positive, encouraging attitude to every class, so you can feel confident speaking from day one.

My lessons focus on real conversation and grammar, tailored to your level and goals. Whether you’re a total beginner or a Korean major preparing for an advanced exam, I’ll personalize the class just for you. I also work as a translator and interpreter, so I'm happy to help with deep questions or subtle nuances in Korean.

For beginners, I can help you start reading Hangul within a week and speaking with confidence.
For advanced learners, I offer high-level discussions, grammar refinement, and even help with academic or professional Korean.

Currently, all lessons are online — and I promise, they’re even better than most face-to-face classes. Flexible, effective, and full of energy.

Let’s make Korean something you enjoy — not just study!

  • Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?

I was born and raised in Korea but grew up speaking English, probably because I was always surrounded by English media and had plenty of English-speaking friends. Because of that, I majored in English in high school and started teaching English to Koreans and Korean to foreigners visiting Korea while I was in college.
Moving to Australia was a game-changer and inspired me to work as a tutor in Superprof! I found English culture, just like Korean culture, to be incredibly fascinating. I decided to teach Korean to Australians, and it turned into an amazing experience full of cultural and linguistic exchange that went way beyond just work.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

When it comes to the Korean, it's worth noting that I'm a Korean who has gone through the whole school system in Korea. Korean history is pretty fascinating, and if I had to highlight one person, it would definitely be King Sejong. He's unique for personally creating a writing system-Hangul! It's his amazing legacy.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?

In Korean culture, there's a common greeting that asks, "Have you eaten?(밥 먹었어?)" Food is highly valued in Korea, and it's not unusual for greetings to revolve around whether you've had a good meal. When we feel sorry, we might offer to buy a meal as a way to apologize, and when we miss someone, we reach out to invite them for a meal. It's a warm and pleasant expression. I even kick off my classes by asking my students, "Hello, have you eaten?"
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

The students who come to me have a variety of reasons for learning Korean. Some are studying it for their university programs, others have a strong interest in Korean culture, and some are planning a trip to Korea. Many students are especially keen to learn Korean for communicating with their families. In Australia, where there's a significant Korean community, people born and raised here with Korean parents often feel a bit disconnected from their cultural roots. They might struggle with their Korean skills, which can be a source of frustration. As a Korean in Australia, being proficient in Korean can greatly impact my sense of cultural and family connection, as well as my interactions with other Koreans.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Hangul itself is quite easy to learn, but Korean can be a bit tricky because it has many irregularities and doesn't always follow one set of rules. Instead of getting caught up in memorizing all rules, it's more helpful to learn lots of expressions and vocabulary naturally through talking. Trying to understand every rule in isolation can be overwhelming. By practicing conversations and picking up expressions as you go, you'll get a better feel for which words and grammar are right.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

Teaching Korean as a native speaker has actually improved my own Korean skills a lot. When explaining things, I often encounter questions from a fresh perspective that make me rethink how I use the language.
Sometimes, it's surprising to find unexpected similarities between English and Korean that seem almost like more than coincidence. It can feel as though there's been some kind of historical connection between Korean and English, given how many similarities there are. It's like we're all somehow connected or that both languages were created with some common thread in mind.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Since I was born and raised in Korea, I originally spoke very native Korean. But after moving to Australia, I needed to learn Korean more professionally to be able to teach it effectively. This meant focusing on standard language usage rather than regional dialects, practising spelling, and studying grammar in depth. As a result, I was able to minimize mistakes and improve both my speaking and writing skills.
